Family & Relationship Counseling

Most relationships hit a rough patch every so often, even in families. Relationships are hard. No matter the kind of relationship: marriage, dating, parent-child, friendships, among others. So many relationships start out with beauty, excitement, adventure, learning, and spirit. It seems like the exhilaration from the beginning slowly dwindles out and we end up becoming more mundane and everyday with less adventure, less learning, less spirit, more distance, and more fighting.

At Courage to Connect we believe that every relationship is unique based on each individual participating. At any given moment each relationship dynamic or family system has multiple generations at work against each other. We individualize each treatment plan based on where you are at in your relationship and based on the family system and relationships you have had in the past. Therapy gives people the opportunity to look back on why they act in their relationship or family system the way that they do, and to be real with their struggles. Relationships are hard, even without everything in our past impacting them. Let us help you navigate through your relationship and your family so that you can create a relationship or a family based off what is unique and true to you.

The actual process of therapy for families and relationships typically works in this fashion:4858397745_fed336e4be_z

  1. Information Gathering-exploring where you all have been, what you all are experiencing now, and where you all want to go
  2. Treatment Planning: developing a plan, setting goals, looking at growth edges
  3. Process Work: putting in place tools, working within the relationship, resources and skills to help you be the most successful person outside of the office, building awareness
  4. We hold no secrets here at Courage to Connect. We believe that if you share with us in private, it needs to be brought to session. This helps establish and build trust between therapist and family (or partner). This helps in healing on all parts.

What are some signs that therapy might be right for your family or relationship?

  • Struggling to get on the same page
  • Having behavioral problems (significant other or children)

What are the benefits to therapy for families or couples?

Therapists at Courage to Connect are trained to see and understand the discord in a family or relational system. Therapy can help build:

  • Trust
  • Communication
  • Proper order in the system
  • Awareness & Understanding
  • Appropriate coping behaviors
  • Recognizing family origins’ impact

Families are complex, and every family has their own style and their own strengths. In families it seems like if one person struggles, we all struggle. Finding help in the midst of struggle is important for the individual as well at the family. If one person works toward growth and change the rest remain stagnant, it is difficult for growth to fully take place. Therapy can help your family or relationship take the next step toward restoration and create long-term emotional, mental, and physical health of everyone in the family and/or relationship.
